Pros - might attract better players if we have the prospect of European football
Cons - it's a shit competition with 500000 games a season. Our squad will all get knackered and injured and we'll end up in a relegation scrap

Why Not,
We could play some fringe players in the early rounds, Poyet, Burke, Lee, Andy Carroll to name a few.

I thought that we were rumoured to be spending up to £40m this summer?... Should be able to improve the squad a fair bit with that kind of money...
It's no Chelsea or even Tottenham budget but it's a fair amount still...

I can't believe that a team like West Ham would consider themselves above such competition? We don't deserve European football but we are being offered it on a plate.
Seems a total no brainer to me, the players have looked knackered since January anyway plus a better manager with greater understanding of fitness and using a squad properly would make a better fist of it.
Given the squad we have, plus decent additions, to say that we would be one of the worst three teams in the league seems a little over the top, even with a European adventure. The early games will be like pre season friendlies anyway given the opponents and if we go out early it will be our own fault but have better match fitness for the early part of the season and I'd rather start strongly.
At the other end of the scale, no matter how unlikely, the winners get a Champions League spot, so I'm in. Might make the owners look at someone with some decent European experience which would be a step up.

We have Sakho, Carroll, Zarate, Tomkins and Poyet to come back into the squad plus at least 5 new additions over the Summer, also with the emerging Burke, Henry and Oxford I don't see an issue at all.
Get rid of Nolan, Cole, Jarvis etc and we'll be fine.
